Spotlight on Excellence: An Exclusive Interview with Mr. Shrinath, Chartered Engineer

In this edition of Dwijodaya, we are thrilled to feature an exclusive interview with Mr. Shrinath, a prominent Chartered Engineer whose remarkable journey has inspired many. His transition from a successful corporate career to entrepreneurship reflects a blend of technical expertise, leadership, and relentless drive. In conversation with Mrs. Veena Kulkarni, Mr. Shrinath shares his personal and professional journey, the challenges he faced, and his vision for the future of Chartered Engineering.

A Humble Beginning and an Ambitious Path

Mr. Shrinath’s story begins in a traditional Brahmin conservative family. Born to parents who valued education and hard work, he was encouraged to follow his passion for engineering. “I come from a very humble background,” he shares. “My parents were my greatest inspiration, and they encouraged me to pursue mechanical engineering at a time when it wasn’t common for people from my community to choose such fields.” In 1984, at the age of just 21, he graduated as one of the youngest engineering graduates from his college and embarked on his professional journey.

The Leap into Chartered Engineering

While Mr. Shrinath built a strong foundation in the corporate world with nearly three decades of experience at companies such as the Aditya Birla Group, Coca-Cola India, Sobha Developers, and Prestige Constructions, he always had an eye on a future that combined independence with innovation. In 2011, he earned his Chartered Engineering certification, a significant milestone in his career.

However, it wasn’t until 2016 that he made the bold decision to leave a well-paying corporate job and become self-employed. “It took four years to fully transition into Chartered Engineering services,” he explains. “The journey since has been satisfying. I’ve worked with some of the top companies in India, such as Larsen & Toubro, Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd., and Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd., and the appreciation I have received from them has been rewarding.”

The Role of a Chartered Engineer: Beyond Technical Expertise

In Mr. Shrinath’s view, being a Chartered Engineer goes far beyond technical skills. “Yes, excellent subject knowledge is essential, but equally important are creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to work as part of a team,” he says. He emphasizes the importance of analytical skills, leadership, and interpersonal communication in excelling in the field.

He fondly recalls one of his recent accomplishments in 2023, where he was tasked with conducting a detailed study, valuation, and safety audit for a steel reinforcement manufacturing company—an authorized conversion agent for Steel Authority of India. “The assignment was completed in 15 working days, and the final report was submitted promptly. The client valued my services, and I received an order worth Rs 5 lakhs,” he shares with pride.

A Vision Aligned with National Growth

Looking to the future, Mr. Shrinath is deeply inspired by India’s focus on self-reliance through the Make in India initiative led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “The vision of Make in Bharath has truly opened doors for industries like steel and construction. These are two of the largest sectors globally, and the need for skilled Chartered Engineers will only grow.” He encourages young engineers to consider a career in Chartered Engineering, stressing that it offers a unique blend of technical, managerial, and entrepreneurial opportunities.

A Fulfilling Journey of 36 Years

As Mr. Shrinath completes 36 years in his combined corporate and entrepreneurial journey, his story is one of perseverance, dedication, and excellence. His ability to navigate the worlds of both corporate and independent practice showcases his versatility and determination to succeed in every venture he undertakes.

In closing, Mr. Shrinath’s advice for aspiring engineers is clear: “Never stop learning, embrace challenges, and always strive for innovation. Chartered Engineering is a field where your work can have a real impact, and with India’s industries expanding, the opportunities are endless.”

Dwijodaya is honored to feature Mr. Shrinath, whose career stands as a testament to the power of education, determination, and adaptability. His work continues to inspire the next generation of engineers and entrepreneurs, and we look forward to following his future endeavors.
